Army WHtR Calculator
The new body composition standard is one number: waist divided by height, under 0.55. This calculator uses the exact DA Form 5500 procedure, not an approximation: the waist rounds DOWN to the nearest half inch, the ratio truncates at three decimals, and the form's own example says 0.549 passes while 0.550 fails.
Max waist for your height
Height records to the nearest 0.5 inch per the form. If you sit between two half inches, check both.
Check a measurement
Per the form: each measurement rounds DOWN to the nearest 0.5 inch, the three recorded values are averaged, and the ratio truncates. Enter one, two, or all three measurements; the math runs on what you give it.
The rules this calculator applies, cited
- The standard: "a WHtR of less than and not equal to 0.55" (AD 2026-13, para 5a(3)). At or above 0.55 means flagged and enrolled in the ABCP (para 5a(5)).
- Waist rounding: measured at the navel, three measurements averaged, and rounded DOWN to the nearest 0.5 inch (DA Form 5500, JUL 2026).
- Height rounding: to the nearest 0.5 inch (DA Form 5500).
- The ratio truncates, never rounds: three decimal places, everything after is dropped. The form's own example: 0.549888 records as 0.549 and PASSES (DA Form 5500).
- Confirmation measurement: fail the first measurement and a different team re-measures you the same duty day, before the commander can act (AD 2026-13, para 5a(4)).
- The 7-day buffer: minimum 7 days between an AFT or CFT and a WHtR measurement (AD 2026-13, para 5a(6)).
